DALLAS, TX -- Three days after coming up with the play of the season, Dallas Vigilantes defensive back Delenall Reid was rewarded for his game-winning efforts against Chicago by being selected the AFL Riddell Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Reid had two interceptions in Dallas’ 65-52 overtime victory over the first place Chicago Rush, including the game-clinching 50-yard interception return for a touchdown in overtime. Reid also came up with a shoe string interception in the first quarter on an errant Ross Michna pass. Reid finished the evening with a season-high nine tackles and five passes defended.
The victory by Dallas snapped a 10-game losing streak and was the team's first road win in franchise history.
Reid, a former Houston Cougar, leads all Vigilantes players with four interceptions and has done so in only four games played. He is the third player from the Vigilantes this season to win an award, joining Kenny Henderson (Ironman of the Week) and Matt Fields (Catch of the Week).
Dallas will look for its first winning streak of the season when it hosts the Utah Blaze on Saturday, July 24, at the American Airlines Center. Former Dallas Desperados quarterback Clint Dolezel will have his No. 13 retired during a halftime ceremony. Also, the game is Fan Appreciation Night, during which falns will have a chance to win great prizes. The night will feature special performances by the Stratoblasters and the Power Team. Specially-priced $5 tickets are on sale now by calling 972.378.5454. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
